It certainly looked like the Saturday event went well--lots of people there. Today's preliminary forecast for afternoon storms may have scared off a few people, though. We may have to wait until tomorrow to see how things go.
Overall, we can consider this a success – especially for a first year event.
During the week, we all noted an increase in the number of bicyclists, especially folks that were clearly commuting. It was telling that on Friday the bike racks at the People's Food Coop were overflowing!
The Neighborhood Bike rides were fun, even though it was windy and cool. Some folks asked us to do them again at other times!
The Bike Rally in Cameron Park on Friday was great too. There were perhaps 100 people or so that came down and looked at the electric cars from Honda Motorweks, had a root beer float and enjoyed some wonderful music.
We held the drawing for the door prizes and the two commuter bikes from Blue Heron Bikes were well received.
The final tabulations of just those folks who turned in their logs was 3,300 miles via alternatives to Single Occupant Vehicles (SOVs)! Given there were many, many more folks who were out and about on bikes and whatever, this represents only a small portion of the whole.
It isn't a lot, but it is a step in the right direction for those folks who can utilize the SOV alternatives. Besides it was fun and goo for our own physical and mental health.
We look forward to doing it again next year!
